Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn

The problem

Saving the game either does not work at all or only works erratically; the game displays the following error message upon attempting to save: “Save game failed. Would you like to quit?”.

The fix

  1. Locate the file or folder called temp in the folder containing Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn (named “BGII – SoA” by default).
  2. Delete the file/folder and, to be sure, empty the trash.
  3. Create a new folder in the same directory and name it temp. Leave the folder empty.

Optional

If you are still experiencing difficulties running the game properly, try following these steps to disable the Spotlight indexing for the Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn folder (Mac OS X 10.4 or later):

  1. Open System Preferences and click on the Spotlight icon under ‘Personal’.
  2. Choose the ‘Privacy’ tab.
  3. Click on the ‘+’ sign and navigate to the location of the Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn folder and click ‘Choose’. The folder is now excepted from Spotlight indexing.

Multiple; for example, the post by Simrook on this thread on the BioWare forums or this post by Gorilym on the Inside Mac Games Forum.

Apart from Gorilym's post, the Spotlight fix is mentioned at least in devSin's post in this thread.
